The KKK's primary goal was to reestablish white supremacy. They often burned crosses, staged rallies, and had parades and marches denouncing blacks. During the civil rights movement of the 1960s there was a surge of KKK activity. They began bombing African American schools and churches. They also performed acts of violence against African American leaders and voters in an attempt to reserve the policies of Radical Reconstruction and restore white supremacy in the south.
